Big cities are a study of contrasts, and you could say Mumbai is that on steroids. One of the most populous cities in India with more than 20 million people (as of 2011), Mumbai – Bombay until 1995 – is a financial powerhouse and home to India’s (arguably the world’s) most prolific film industry, a booming fashion industry, and the largest tropical forest in an urban zone. A huge, sprawling place with tremendous energy, its center also contains some of the most spectacular colonial-era architecture and gardens, street bazaars, top-notch restaurants, every imaginable place of worship, and tremendous history. And let’s not forget the people, many of whom are urbane, accomplished and pack plenty of good humor as part of their urban armor.
