Jewish Heritage Tours will send a list of suggested packing tips to registered India, My 2nd Home/India Jewish Heritage tour participants. In general, pack for summertime touring, with possible cool evenings in the northern part of India. During any season, your travel wardrobe can be casual and comfortable. Cotton and linen fabrics allow your skin to breathe in warm temperatures, and, as mentioned, be prepared for possible cool mornings in the north by taking a light sweater, jacket or wrap.
In large cities, jeans and T-shirts will be fine in many places, but it’s best to dress more conservatively wherever we tour. For religious places, women must keep legs and shoulders covered, so knee-length-or-longer skirts or pants and a wrap are recommended items to pack. Men should wear shirts with collars rather than T-shirts. Shorts are not recommended for either sex anywhere, but especially when visiting India’s holy sites.
Be sure to pack sturdy shoes with good support. Sandals, preferably closed-toe ones, are a good option, but they still need to support your feet. Women may want to bring a pair of light-weight, foldable flats for Shabbat or evening occasions.
Sunscreen is a must, as it tends to be very expensive in India. Most personal care items are available in major cities, but some antiperspirants and hair products will be difficult to find in smaller centers.
