About “INDIA: My 2nd Home”
Whether you’re touring India for the first or fourth time, seeing it with an experienced, knowledgeable guide – someone who can bring to life the history and culture you’ll encounter at every turn, as well as ensure the smooth and safe operation of all aspect of your trip – transforms a vacation into an experience of a lifetime.
Escorting “INDIA: My 2nd Home” will be Nathan Katz, a Florida International University distinguished professor, emeritus, and scholar of Indian religions who not only specializes in Asian Jewry, but also has lived in and traveled extensively throughout India for years. From his first journey as a 20 year-old backpacker, to residing with the Jewish community of Kochi (Cochin), and later as a member of a Jewish delegation of rabbis and scholars to meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the four-time Fulbright scholar eagerly returns every chance he gets, both individually and leading groups.
“I love showing India and introducing it to people in a very direct way. One of the many features that’s great about this tour is the interactive opportunities participants will have with Indian people. Those human connections – that’s what makes a trip memorable.”
As he has for most of his tours, Prof. Katz is teaming up with his wife, Ellen Goldberg, an author, journalist, photographer and veteran Jewish Federation professional. A South Asia-based correspondent for two years for The Christian Science Monitor, she covered stories ranging from an interview with the Dalai Lama at his residence in northern India to the outbreak of the ethnic civil war in Sri Lanka. Her photographs have been exhibited in Israel, India and throughout the U.S.
